40 Burning Hot

40 Burning Hot is one of those pick-up-for-two-minutes games that quietly eats twenty. The screen is a grid of glowing symbols, and your job is to line up matching shapes across the board before the round timer runs down. Tapping feels crisp, and the little flame animation when a full line clears is genuinely satisfying.

Controls are as simple as it gets: tap to select, swipe to shift a row. That simplicity is the point. The difficulty comes from reading the whole board at once and planning two moves ahead, which is harder than it sounds when everything is flashing at you. We liked that later stages introduce locked tiles that force you to change your usual pattern.

After a week of playing on the train, the thing that kept us coming back was the rhythm. It's not a deep strategy title and it doesn't pretend to be, but as a palette cleanser between heavier games it's excellent. The soundtrack is a bit repetitive, so headphones and your own music are recommended.
