How to manage your economy in base-building games
Almost every strategy game with a base has the same tension: build for the future or build for right now. Beginners overspend on the now and stall out.
The rule I follow is to keep economy ahead of army for the first third of a match. A stronger income snowballs, and by mid-game you can outproduce anyone who rushed early.
That said, don't turtle blindly. Scout, and if you see a genuine early threat, react. Balance is the whole game, and it's why base builders never get boring.
Practically, always have a queue of workers or income modules building in the background. Idle production is wasted money, and wasted money loses matches quietly.
